Analysis of TCP Performance over

چکیده
Mobile ad hoc networks have gained a lot of attention lately as a means of providing continuous network connectivity to mobile computing devices regardless of physical location. Recently, a large amount of research has focused on the routing protocols needed in such an environment. In this two-part report, we investigate the eeects that link breakage due to mobility has on TCP performance. Through simulation, we show that TCP throughput drops signiicantly when nodes move because of TCP's inability to recognize the diierence between link failure and congestion. We also analyze speciic examples, such as a situation where throughput is zero for a particular connection. We introduce a new metric, expected throughput, for the comparison of throughput in multi-hop networks, and then use this metric to show how the use of explicit link failure notiication (ELFN) techniques can signiicantly improve TCP performance. In this paper (Part I of the report), we present the problem and an analysis of our simulation results. In Part II of this report, we present the simulation and results in detail.

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks
Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a 4G wireless broadband technology developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) release 8, and it's represent the competitiveness of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) for the next 10 years and beyond. The concepts for LTE systems have been introduced in 3GPP release 8, with objective of high-data-rate, low-latency and packet-optimized...
متن کاملPerformance of TCP over Wireless Networks with the Snoop Protocol
Several attempts have been made to assess the performance of TCP over wireless networks and several solutions have been proposed to improve its performance. Even though many different TCP versions and solutions exist, so far they have not been studied together. In this paper we include a simulation-based performance analysis of the most important TCP versions over wireless networks. In addition...
متن کاملPerformance of TCP/IP over ATM over an ADSL
The performance of TCP/IP over ATM over an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) was investigated. Because the bandwidth of an ADSL link can vary over time due to changes in the link’s physical conditions, which degrades TCP performance, we performed simulations for various ATM traffic controls, including available bit rate (ABR) and generic flow control, used to handle variations in the AD...

XINBING WANG. Performance Analysis of TCP over Wired and Wireless Networks. (Under the direction of Professor Do Young Eun.) Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) currently accounts for about 90% applications and 80% data of network traffic, and plays the dominant role in Internet transmission. In this dissertation, we present three studies of TCP performance over wired and wireless networks. In ...
متن کاملUse of TCP Decoupling in Improving TCP Performance over Wireless Networks
We propose using the TCP decoupling approach to improve a TCP connection's goodput over wireless networks. The performance improvement can be analytically shown to be proportional to p MTU=HP Sz, where MTU is the maximum transmission unit of participating wireless links and HP Sz is the size of a packet containing only a TCP/IP header. For example, on a WaveLAN [33] wireless network, where MTU ...
